I connect both of the monitors to the hub via HDMI. The hub has 2 USB ports and an ethernet port but the key for running the 2 external monitors are the 2 HDMI ports. This connects to one of the computer's 2 USB-C ports.

You need something that actually uses Thunderbolt -īecause my U2415 monitors are not USB-C I couldn't daisy chain. Those look similar and are less expensive but wil not work for you because they rely on the same MST capability that daisy chaining does. If you want to connect a pair of U2415s to your system, you'll need to either connect them separately or get something like a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter, such as those made by StarTech, Sonnet, OWC, and Plugable. You need something that actually uses Thunderbolt There are three problems here. But the U2415 of course doesn't support Thunderbolt 3. But even then, you can only run two displays from a single port that way, whereas on a PC you could run 3-4, depending on the displays and system involved.
The only way to run multiple displays from a single output on a Mac is using hardware that taps into actual Thunderbolt 3 capabilities, because TB3 allows two independent DisplayPort interfaces to be carried over a single TB3 link.
